Tax Investigations
The number of self employed people and limited companies being investigated by HM Revenue & Customs is on the increase as we move to a “pay and file” system similar to that used in America. There, the IRS use most of their work force to investigate information provided on tax returns. Here, the Government are moving rapidly to a system where all returns are filed online and an ever increasing number are now selected for investigation.
It is very important that the investigation be handled correctly from the outset to avoid punitive penalties and interest being levied for what may be innocent mistakes. It is therefore advisable to contact a professional advisor as soon as you receive an enquiry notice.
We have been successfully dealing with all levels of enquiries for the last 25 years. These have ranged from investigations into self employed accounts and tax returns to much larger enquiries. These can comprise of enquiries and interviews from the VAT Fraud Unit, Enforcement Office and the Solicitors Office at HM Revenue & Customs.
